TBS MUN Team participated in the 13th Anatolia College MUN in Thessaloniki, Greece from February 9-11, 2018. 11 of our high school students successfully represented Cuba and Germany in Disarmament and International Security Committee (GA1), Economic and Financial Committee (GA2), Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Committee (GA3), Special Political and Decolonization Committee (GA4), Legal Committee (GA6), ECOSOC and EU Council of Ministers. For 3 days the delegates lobbied, debated, wrote resolutions and voted these resolutions in their commitees. The last day of the conference the GA delegates participated in the General Assembly where the previously voted resolutions were voted one last time. Burak Yığ and Tan Öztan's resolutions went to General Assembly and they successfuly delivered their final speeches in front of 400 delegates. Burak was also awarded “Honorable Mention for Best Delegate”.

MUN conferences help the students improve their reasearch, critical thinking, public speaking and people skills.

Burak Yığ | MUN experience
The ACMUN conference which I attended from the 9th of February to the 12th was one of the most unique and enjoyable experiences I've ever had in my life. Although the preparation before the conference was tiresome, it was all worth it in the end once we finally started the conference. The conference at first may have been intimidating and quite daunting but as I began gaining confidence I found it much more comfortable and easier to talk in front of my fellow peers from different locations. I myself was part of the Cuban delegation and I was in the GA1 committee which looks after conflicts, how to deal with them and how to have fewer conflicts involving innocent casualties. I had not only needed to speak in front of 50 people in a small room but was given the opportunity to speak in front of a whole assembly of 400 people. Speaking in front of all those people at first seemed terrifying but I received positive feedback from my teachers and fellow peers. This was both rewarding and also contributed to my MUN experience in an unforgettable way.

Apart from the hard work and debating, I also had the chance to meet many new people from all different backgrounds. I made many new friends who were not only from Greece but I had also met people from the US, England, Egypt and Jordan. All the people that I had come across were very warm and friendly no matter where they were from. I not only had one of my clauses being accepted into the General Assembly which includes about 500 potential participants but I had also managed to receive an honourable mention for best delegate during my first conference which is a great effort on its own especially because the other people in the room had much more experience than me when it came to an MUN conference. I very much enjoyed this experience and encourage all students to participate in MUN.
