LANGUAGE PREPARATION
How our English Learning is Different
Here at Tarabya British Schools we consider English as a medium that knowledge is acquired, rather than a second language. Our students, therefore, acquire English through learning age appropriate subject content and not as traditional English lessons. English is presented in a practical meaningful way and thus becomes a natural, integral part of the education process.
As our students study the Turkish curriculum in Turkish, they will also study English, Mathematics and Science in English following the internationally accredited Cambridge curriculum. Concepts and ideas will therefore be reinforced through both languages resulting in deeper learning.
For 5-14 year olds, Tarabya British Schools offer a Primary curriculum with integrated assessment. We have set clear internationally recognised learning objectives for each year of primary education. We focus on learners’ development in both the subject matter and English each year and provide a natural progression throughout the years of primary education. Our continuous assessment of learner performance throughout the year ensures student achievement is maximised and support in both subject content and English is appropriately given.
Tarabya British Schools offer a Secondary curriculum that has both learner-centred and enquiry-based approaches to learning. Cambridge IGCSE is the world's most popular international curriculum for 14-16 year olds and is recognised by universities and employers worldwide. Again, Tarabya British Schools offer its learners key subjects in English, Mathematics and Science with independent assessment taking place at the end of the course. The curriculum will complement the Turkish curriculum and again lead to deeper learning for our students in both the subject matter and English.
For 16 to 19 year old Tarabya British Schools offer an Advanced curriculum where our learners develop deep subject understanding, independent learning and critical thinking skills which universities value highly. All subjects offered are recognised not only by universities but by employers worldwide and are taught through English. Students, therefore, who attain ‘A’ levels have also acquired a good knowledge of English.
